Summer Lux Collection - Sew 'n Style Series

 - Sew 'n Style Series

A while back I stumbled across a designer Lil Luxe Collection, my daughter being Lux, I was naturally enticed. I was instantly in love, Jessica's range is uniquely gorgeous, her patterns have the perfect touch of Lux and are functional! Needless to say I have been an avid follower ever since! So when Jessica announced the Sew 'n Style series I was intrigued and daunted, but eager.

The challenge

To create a three piece mini collection with a clear theme. This should be three separate looks that are cohesive with one another. Half of these garments are to be made from a Lil Luxe pattern.

Theme

My first task was to create an inspiration board for Lux's collection. This is the first time I'd made my first inspo board and really enjoyed doing it! I thought about my 19 month old and what she loves... Shoes, dancing, outside, animals.

I put a touch of me in here too. I love... beach, summer, feathers, geometric, bright and uniqueness (prob why I love Lil Luxe patterns so much). We're coming out of winter here so I wanted to work on a spring/summer collection for Lux.

Next was fabric shopping and selecting a colour scheme. After searching and wanting lots of fabric I decided on a gold, peach, mint and white scheme :) Due to coming across some more fitting fabric in the great fabric detash page on Facebook my fabric choices did change a little.

Given that I wanted these outfits for Lux's summer wardrobe they are a tad on the big side for now :)

The Cool Summer Look

Being based on the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne, Australia our summer days are not always the warmest so I wanted to include some pants. Tadah Patterns have just released the Chillax harems which I knew would be perfect for my active toddler and being cotton be nice and cool too.
The city girl romper from Lil Luxe is one of my all time favs so I decided to add the swing top.
Lux was in need of a new hat so we added a Oliver + S reversible hat and finished it off with some gorgeous gold sandals.

The Dress Me Up Look

I love the charming tee/dress and the uniqueness of the circle back with a cute dangling charm! This Lil Luxe pattern was a must for my collection. I wanted to start stepping outing the norm and my comfort zone. I came across some gorgeous eyelet embroidered fabric in PEACH on the great fabric destash and knew I had to use it! I was originally wanting to use my geometric fabric for the bodice with the eyelet fabric for the skirt. BUT do you think I read through patterns first?! Who has time for that? haha. The bodice of this dress needs to be constructed in knit (whoops!), so lucky I had some gorgeous Art Gallery fabric ready to go. I was loving the look of the eyelet fabric and knew we needed to make a matching knot headband from Rabbit Rabbit Creations. Lux was flower girl the other week and she had the perfect pair of white shoes with heart cut outs in the them. Outfit 2 complete!

The Hacked Glam Look

I have had the Tadah flexi-short pattern printed and ready to go for far too long and when I saw the ruched hack I knew had to make them with the Lil Luxe ruched and division top. In my fabric shopping I had found some gold sequin trim and wanting to push and extend my sewing skills I knew I wanted to incorporate it somehow. I was originally going to put this on the sleeves of the short sleeve version and then brainwave, being a summer collection, I wondered if I could pull off my first ever hack and do a sleeveless version with my trim. Success!
And whats a glam outfit without a glam headband? Using some of the fabric offcuts, doing a rolled hem and some gathering, I made some cute little fabric flowers, added these to a lace headband and finally added a couple of gems. Perfect!

Thanks for looking at my FIRST blog, I'm super proud of the end result!
